Four Reasons Your Body Stores Fat

Reasons Your Body Stores Fat

This is a follow up to our previous article - How to Start A Weight Loss Program. We surely hope at least a few of you have started following the plan suggested in that article.

Its also important to know why the body stores fat. Apart from lack of exercise, here are a few other reasons

Toxins:
Our bodies are equipped with complex systems to drain toxins and metabolic wastes through the skin, kidneys, lungs, liver and colon. But with exposure to food additives, synthetic personal care products, and chemicals in our water and air, the human body can be overloaded with chemicals to detox. Fat cells are the preferential storage area for toxins that your body can't get rid of in some other way.

Most of the toxic load which cannot be detoxified is stored in the liver (right at your belly) or isolated from the body's systems in fat. The more toxic food you eat, the more the body's need to store fat.

It is a shame that our environment has become polluted. One of the ways you can cut out toxins is to use organic fruits and vegetbles, cut down on synthetic personal care products, cutting down on sugar and avoiding processed food. Detoxifying yourself is also a good way to start. We'll cover detoxification in a future article.

Starving yourself:
Yes, not eating too frequently signals the body to store fat. Fat is also the body's survival mechanism. Not eating too frequently is like giving the body a message to store fat as a contingency measure. Try to eat 5-6 times a day. Three main courses and three snacks. This way you'll not binge on those main meals and you end up cutting down on total calories. However ensure that your snacks consist of healthy foods such as nuts, corn, salads, fruits and curds.

Eating every 2-3 hours also boosts your metabolism helping your fat loss regime. Yes it may be difficult to follow such a routine. In a future article, we'll give you ideas on how you can incorporate this into your busy lives.

Depression:
Its a vicious cycle - depression causes fat gain and fat gain causes depression!

Researchers at Rush University Medical Center have shown that depression is linked with the accumulation of visceral fat, the kind of fat packed between internal organs at the waistline, which has long been known to increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The researchers found a strong correlation between depression and visceral fat, particularly among overweight and obese women. The results were the same even when the analysis adjusted for other variables that might explain the accumulation of visceral fat, such as the level of physical activity.

There isn't a single method to get rid of depression. The reasons for depression vary from person to peson. Try relaxation techniques like meditation and deep breathing. If you are suffering from chroic depression, you may need medical help. Keeping your mind occupied, exercising and relaxation are a few ways you can avoid or cut down on depression.

Excess carbohydrates:
It is not the fat in the foods we eat but, far more, the excess carbohydrates from our starch and sugar-loaded diet that is making people fat and unhealthy. We do need carbohydrates. However consuming carbs through rice, fried potatoes, grains, sweets and starchy food is far too much that what the body needs. All this excess carbohydrates gets converted to fat. Excess consumption of carbohydrates can also result in depression and also life threatening diseases like cancer and diabetes.

Increase your protein and healthy fat intake. Eggs, chicken, fish, sprouts, nuts, milk, curds are all healthy options.

Remember we are not talking about lack of physical activity, which is one of the primary casuses of fat gain. However following the above recommendations can show significant results.
