Carrying a laptop has become an essential evil for today's working professionals. Gone are the days when you had a desktop computer. Laptops have become affordable and with increasing workplace demands, companies provide laptops to their employees to enable them to work from home. So now apart from the stress of carrying work home, you also have to carry burden of a laptop.

Its well known that carrying heavy luggage with you at all times can cause backache. However not many know that, in women, it can also cause a rather embarrassing condition called Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI). Working women who end up carrying 6 to 9 kilos of weight regularly often land up at clinics complaining of SUI Symptoms.

Heavy luggage exert pressure on the pelvic muscles, weakening them and leaving the patient incapable of controlling urine output. One of the more common causes of SUI is damaged or weakened muscles in the pelvic floor or sphincter.

SUI leaves the patient incapable of controlling the outflow of urine a the slightest abdominal pressure. Activities like coughing, sneezing, exercising or even laughing may cause accidental leaks. Urinary incontinence is not a disease, it's rather a symptom. Other causes of Urinary incontinence are birth defects, pregnancy, pelvic surgery. Don't add to these causes by carrying laptops or other heavy luggage frequently. Try finding lockers at your workplace to store them safely. Finish all your tasks before leaving your office and avoid carrying work home. This only increases stress which causes a whole lot of other health problems.

The good news: around 80 per cent of urinary incontinence can be cured completely.
