What do you think about restaurant owners and food manufacturers - Are they concerned about your health or their profit margins? Would you go back to a restaurant if the food there didn't taste great? Would you choose pacakged baby food your baby doesn't like? The answer is No. So what do manufacturers and cooks in restaurants do? Simple - They add MSG (Monosodium Glutamate)
MSG is a flavor enhancer that’s not only used as an addition to Chinese food, but actually added to thousands of the foods you and your family regularly eat. MSG is used in canned soups, chips, meats, salad dressings, frozen foods and amazingly even in baby food and infant formula.
MSG is more than just a seasoning like salt and pepper, it actually enhances the flavor of foods, making processed meats and frozen dinners taste fresher and smell better, salad dressings more tasty, and canned foods less tinny.
Short term consumption of MSG can cause nubness, burning sensation, headaches, nausea, rapid heartbeat and drowsiness. Regular consumption can cause obesity, eye damage, headaches, farigue, disorientation and depression.
Of course food manufacturers, using loopholes in the law, do not mention MSG in their label anymore, and obviously your favorite chinese restaurant will not show it on their recipe.
When you see the word flavourings in the ingredients list, you can almost be certain it contains MSG. Its always a wise thing to check with your restaurant if they use MSG and always avoid processed and packaged food.
